What is Soroptimist?

Soroptimist is an international organization of business and professional women volunteers who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local comminuties and throughout the world. The name "Soroptimist" means "best for women" and that's what the organization strives to achieve.  Soroptimist are women at their best working to help other women to be their best. 

Service Projects

Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women

This award gives cash grants to women who have returned to school to enable themselves to upgrade their job status or re-enter the work force.  Awards are given on a local, region and federal level.  Soroptimist International of Tampa distributes three local awards.

Violet Richardson Award

This award honors 14 to 17 year old girls who are making a difference through volunteer service.

Dream It, Be It 

Our free one-day seminar is a yearly event held to assist young women, aged 13 to 18, with issues such as overcoming obstacles, balancing stress, SMART goals and exploring careers.

Teen Dating Violence Bookmarks

This bookmark is an awareness tool which identifies "red flags" which might indicate an abusive relationship as well as dating rights which support a happy, healthy dating relationship. Soroptimist works with Hillsborough County Schools guidance counselors to distrubute Teen Dating Violocen bookmarks in middle and high schools across the district.

Soroptimists STOP Trafficking

In 2007, Soroptimist launched a major campaign Soroptimists STOP Trafficking aimed at raising awareness about the devestating practice of sex trafficking.

Teen Achievers

Tampa Soroptimists teamed up with the Bob Gilbertson Central City YMCA"S Teen Acievers program to help middle and high school be successful in school, raise their self-esteem and achieve personal goals.
